Last year, Raliyivka LLC sowed flax instead of rapeseed. The harvest was 2 tonnes per hectare, so this year they plan to increase the area under the crop. The company’s director Oleksandr Khachaturyan told about this in the article “1.5 million tonnes of trade, almost 10 thousand hectares of land and 200 thousand tonnes of storage. Business card of Region Grain Company”.
The lack of moisture affected the abandonment of rapeseed. The farm decided to sow the crop only if the soil moisture level was at least 15 mm as of 15 August. As a result, rapeseed has completely dropped out of the company’s crop rotation – this year they refused to sow it at all.
“Due to the lack of moisture, sunflower and corn suffered, in fact, died, but flax grew. We also grew a little durum wheat, a Serbian-bred variety. We harvested it and sold it well. We will sow more. We bought the seeds directly from producers in Serbia. It took us a long time to find them, a long time to negotiate, but we finally bought them. So next year, I think there will be no problems with durum seed,” says the company’s director.
